About Australia, part 2

September 21, 2011

Let’s see, where did I leave off? Day one… After we had our snacks and tea we walked back to the hotel and took a 4-hour nap, as recommended by Kirk, our flight attendant and jetlag expert. That nap was just what we needed to feel somewhat refreshed and still function enough to see some of the city on our first day without being delirious.

We took a few more pictures of the view from the balcony in our room…

… then we headed out for dinner! We ate in Chinatown at a restaurant called Shark Fin House (one of Sarah’s recommendations), and it was delicious!

The sun went down while we were eating, so after dinner we walked back to our side of the City Center to check out the Saturday night shenanigans. One thing I noticed throughout the trip was that Melbourne was very clean, and very well-lit at night. We loved all the lights!

The intersection of Swanston and Flinders is one of the most well-known areas of Melbourne, and very busy. It was also only about a block and a half (maybe two?) from our hotel, so we spent quite a bit of time over there during the trip (i.e. – be prepared for more pictures later) 😉

We hung out in Federation Square for a while the first night, before making our way back toward the hotel. There is a little green space next to the hotel, along with a coffee/pastry/gelateria called Brunetti. We stopped for coffees (latte for him, cappuccino for me) and some amazing French macaroons. Then we sat outside on their patio enjoying our dessert and each other’s company on a truly beautiful night.

Brunetti’s!! (spoiler: you may see more pics of Brunetti too!)

And that was the end of Day One!! We went back to our room and passed out in our heavenly bed, knowing we had a VERY full day ahead of us the following morning! 🙂
