Baldy Hike

September 30, 2010

A couple of weekends ago, when Jennifer was still here visiting, we hiked Baldy. You may remember that I mentioned it a while back… but I’m just now getting around to uploading the pictures! Oops!

Baldy (which is bigger than it looks in this picture):

We hiked up from the little blue pond you see near the middle right:

The view:

A view of North Eagle River below, and an idea of how steep it was where we were standing:

This is the ground cover we were walking/climbing on once we got out of the trees. It was very springy, soft and thick – it came above my ankles, and sometimes higher. It was pretty though too!

It was a fun hike and a little more strenuous than we were expecting. We may or may not have lost the trail once we came out of the trees… I’m still not entirely sure. But we figured if we just kept going up, we’d be going the right way. πŸ™‚ And we could see where we came from, as well as other reference points below, so we weren’t worried about getting lost. It did start to get pretty steep though, so we eventually reached a point where we decided to turn around and head back down. I do know there is a trail to the top somewhere, and have heard there are some gorgeous views on the other side, so I look forward to going back another time to see what’s on the other side of the mountain. πŸ˜‰
