Book Review: The Hunger Games
I haven’t done a book review in a while, but after I read The Hunger Games in a single 4.5 hour sitting, I figured it was time for another one. 🙂 Yesterday I picked up The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, which had piqued my interest after V’s review a while back.
The Hunger Games is in the young adult dystopia genre, and I found it highly engrossing. It is set in a future North America that has become a country called Panem. Panem was broken into 13 districts, each providing the country with a different resource, with a place called The Capitol that controls the distribution. At least 74 years before the book begins there was an uprising against The Capitol. The districts were defeated, and as a result, the 13th district was completely destroyed and the other 12 districts are forced to pay a yearly tribute to The Capitol. The tribute is not food or money, but rather 1 boy and 1 girl from each district between the ages of 12 and 18 that must participate in the Hunger Games. The tributes are selected by a lottery system and taken to The Capitol where they are forced to fight to the death in an arena designed and manipulated by the Gamemakers. Only one tribute can win, and it is required that every citizen of Panem watch the televised Hunger Games as a reminder of the price of rebellion. The main character of The Hunger Games is a girl named Katniss Everdeen. Katniss is a 16-year-old girl from District 12. She volunteers to be the tribute from her district after her 12-year-old sister is selected in the lottery. The book continues with her experiences as the girl tribute from District 12 and her fight for survival in the 74th Annual Hunger Games.
This book had an Ender’s Game feel to it, with a little of The Lottery thrown in (and elements from a few other books I can’t quite bring to mind at the moment). The book is well-written and even though the plot does not seem entirely original, I enjoyed it and would recommend it. I gave it 4 stars on goodreads. The book is the first in a trilogy, so the second book is next up on my reading list. 🙂

WTF!! no she’s not the right person for the role of Katniss Everdeen! When I first heard that she was pnaliyg Katniss I was so furious, I also cried, because I knew that I could have been a way better Katniss than Jennifer Lawrence. I have almost the same personality as Katniss. The Trilogy was AWESOME! They better not ruin the books by making this movie. They picked the worst cast ever none of them fit their description in the books!!! COME ON PEOPLE! You have to match the actors/actresses with how they were described!! Prim has to have blonde hair and blue eye, and Katniss has to have black hair (or at least brown or a dark color but not blonde) and gray eyes. I will be so mad if they don’t make this movie like the trilogy. But unless they can make the movie even better than the books (which will never happen, three words best. book. ever!) this movies going to suck BIG TIME!
